In a lot of “How to Not Have Writers Block” posts I’ve read, they have a large list of things to do. Many I do not do.
My number one piece of advice in this department is: write in a different environment.
I like going outside (in the sunshine, not in coldness) and sitting at a picnic table and feeling inspired by the feel of grass on my feet or the slight breeze (this only applies in the warmer seasons, sadly).
It helps me because it gives you something new to look at. If I only ever sit in my room to blog, I won’t be inspired by the going’s on of living rooms, dining rooms, verandas. There’s so much to look at it if we choose a different place to sit.
When I blog in my room, I find the posts are more reflective on the day. It’s me thinking back to what happened and what I could write about.
When I blog outside, I find the posts are more explorations of the future. Ponderings of what might happen or what I want to be like in the future.
When I blog downstairs, in a living or dining room, the posts are generally more people-orientated because that’s what I see. In the living room, people ask me what I’m blogging about and then I end up talking about them or talking about an idea that’s focused on others rather than myself.
Do you see what I mean?

[ Smiles ] Changing one’s environment with the intentions of combating writer’s block is a brilliant idea.
In my case, when I want to get my creative juices flowing, I listen to electronic dance music!
