To Start the Day

A joy in starting my new job has been placing more importance on how I begin my day. My job starts earlier than the last, and the commute is longer, which has enforced a better sleep pattern and spending my time more wisely. But I have also found that the quality of my morning is dependent on what I prioritise the evening before as well.

I decided to keep things simple, with three main to-do’s each morning and night. For the morning:

// quiet time with God

// make bed

// skin care

For the evening:

// no TV after eight

// make lunch for the next day

// put the kitchen to bed

I do not always feel like doing the dishes, or making my bed. But my joy increases when I can walk into my space and find an ordered home. It makes a difference for me to have an unhurried morning in which I don’t need to make lunch, and can be focused on spending time with God instead of watching the clock and thinking about everything I need to do.

Of course, some days still feel easier than others. There are the usual ups and downs. But they do not feel so monumental when grounded in the Lord. He is constant, stable, reliable. And by being more intentional with my time, I am more aware of where He is in my life and how He is moving.

This season of life is still new, and there are aspects where I am not fully comfortable. But if I am growing closer to God, I am content, and able to continue on.
