I finished some books and started some books. I currently have six sitting on my bedside table, which is far too many but I started reading far too many, so that’s on me. This month I read some manga (don’t ask me why, ask my sister who started me on this path) and finished the last two books in a trilogy (that I only began because of my brother). Basically, this month’s reads are the responsibility of my siblings, and I take no ownership.
The Ballad of Never After and A Curse for True Love by Stephanie Garber
Following on from the novel I read last month, these books did not disappoint. Plot twists, cliffhangers, and moments in between that are too-good-to-be-true. To second what I wrote in my review for the first novel, the imagery stands out as being clear and natural despite the setting being an unknown, fantasy world. The protagonist, Evangeline, has to team up with the person she trusts the least due to surprising villains and an intimidating prophecy. While the second novel was more engaging, the third was still a satisfying end, though there are some questions left unanswered (surrounding some characters who didn’t make an appearance in the third book, and a deal Evangeline never completed from the first book). Overall, a wonderful series. 4.5 stars.
