May 2023 Reads

Snow and Rose by Emily Winfield Martin: a fairytale style book with beautiful illustrations, this novel is the perfect wintery-read. About two girls whose father disappears, the story follows Snow and Rose as they meet mysterious creatures who live in the woods near the home and try to uncover the secrets surrounding the woods. A predictable ending, but engaging nonetheless. 4 stars.

Decline and Fall by Evelyn Waugh: I didn’t enjoy this book as much as Vile Bodies. A classic surrounding a man who begins teaching at a private school, I didn’t find the humour entertaining or the characters likeable. 3 stars.

Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie: A classic Poirot, this mystery did not disappoint. I enjoy these novels partly because of the period in which they were written, and how the mystery unravels as Poirot keeps his musings from Hastings until the story reaches a critical point. It keeps the stories interesting and prevents the reader from guessing every little detail about the crime. 4 stars.

Happy reading!
