Newsletter: branching out

Welcome back!

If you follow along with my blog, you’ll know I’ve recently started a new series about femininity.

I’ve been interested in the topic for a long time but avoided discussing it for the simple reason that I felt almost disqualified from having something to say. The topic seemed reserved for women with long hair, flawless makeup, and families of their own who wear matching outfits. (For those who don’t know me in person, it’s safe to say none of these describe me!) (Which I’m more than okay with.)

I won’t get into femininity here in the newsletter, as I do want this space to be widely accessible and to differ from my blog. But if you are interested in the topic, I have three femininity posts so far that you can find here.

I’m bringing this up because there is something to be said for following a path of interest, especially if it involves walking through some sort of discomfort or hesitance.

In discussing femininity these past few weeks, I have rediscovered joy and fulfillment. If I had continued thinking I was “disqualified”, I would still be in a place of discouragement with my writing and purpose. So often, it’s the thing that scares us that we need to do, and will bring good things with it.

Of course, there are moments when awkwardness doesn’t bloom into something wonderful. There are times when you might wish you hadn’t gone to an event, or tried something new. We’ve all experienced some sort of failure, haven’t we? But more often than not, I think what we receive in return for walking through discomfort is worth it, and is where God wants us.

If there’s something in your life you feel called towards, but are worried about the outcome, I’d like to encourage you to (maybe prayerfully) give it a go! I’d also love to hear about it. You can respond to this email and we can continue the conversation.
