After a disappointing election result here in Australia, it feels all the more pressing to trust in the Lord and lean on His Word.
The reality of our current society is this: we need to find our way back to God. The more we stray from His foundation of truth, the more compromised our morals become. The media will easily infiltrate our lives with lies; to be vigilant is not what feels natural, but it is necessary in this time.
In a world that encourages us to be selfish and self-centred, and to claim any “truth” that we design, we need to humble ourselves and declare that there is one Truth alone. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; all other paths are false and lead to destruction.
Looking around, it’s clear the world is crying out for a Saviour; someone to heal, someone to redeem. However, if we dull that ache in ourselves and fill our lives with false comforts and a worldly agenda, we will not find the freedom we desire.
In saying all of this, there is still no reason to be fearful. We should be seeking wisdom, we should be alert and understanding as to what is happening around us, but we should never forget that God is far bigger, far mightier, and sovereign. His will be done regardless of how it looks from our perspective.
The Lord is also merciful, kind, and loving. He is always calling people towards Himself, drawing them in. There will always be forgiveness and restoration available to those who seek Him and believe. I can praise Him knowing He is steadfast and good; He is our Protector and Shepherd, He is our Fortress and hiding place.
When Jesus returns, I pray I am found awake and alert. Not asleep and unaware or cowering in fear, but remaining in Him and living out what He has called us to do. Looking towards eternity means it doesn’t matter if people on earth think I’m stupid or embarrassing for sharing the gospel. Every day I work with twenty people who do not know God as their loving Father or as the one true King. They don’t know the love He has for them, and how He longs to heal all that is broken. We might be the only voice in someone’s life that is speaking the Truth.
Jesus is coming whether we’re ready or not… wouldn’t it be better to do all we can in preparation? Wouldn’t my time best be used sharing the truth? Now is not the time to hide away or be ignorant, but the time to humble ourselves, repent, and stand for what is right.
Let’s not forget God but proclaim His Word, for the world needs to hear.
