Mercy / Poem

Mercy (written by Sarah Bennett)

our lives can be filled with distance

empty promises of fulfilment

we can sing to God in our joy

but still walk toward temptation

we can hear the words there is freedom

but not know them in our hearts

we can say we’ve carried our cross to the finish line

only to trap ourselves in the dark

the weight of our shame can hold us

we forget His burden is light

for Jesus is the atonement for our sins

in love for us He died

the path may be narrow

but Jesus is the way

though at times the cup tastes bitter

His is the hand I will always take
